I love the city. There’s always something interesting to notice. I’ve been using my wide angle lens lately. It’s only a 28mm however, so it doesn’t make a huge difference in my photos. I found this very awesome site while looking for wider angle lenses for my camera. How to Use Ultra Wide Lenses Someday I’d like to get a super wide angle lens. I love how they push the perspective of photographs.

This photo was taken at the zoo. This was my second encounter with a butterfly house. I think they’re pretty, but being surrounded by that many at once still creeps me out a little bit.

So… you’re really not supposed to park here.
I used a new wide angle lens no filters or photo editing.
I want to know how signs lose chunks of area like that one in the middle shows. It’s an awkward shape to be taken right out of the middle like that.

Just a Little Rusty.

Urban exploration. It’s interesting what you come across sometimes when your just out walking around. I found both of these signs ages ago, but it was months later before I decided to go back and document them. I did a little photo editing on both of these. In the first one, I did a small crop and some color adjusting to get more intense colors. In the second one, I really wanted to emphasize the rusty color on the sign, so I desaturated some of the background.

The Grand Basin in Forest Park.

I’ve been adding to my collection of film cameras. A couple of months ago, I purchased a Canon EOS Rebel K2. I like this SLR immensely. It’s so much lighter compared to the Pentax K-1000 and it is really nice to have automatic functions at times. However I am still completely in love with the photographs I can capture with the Pentax. The clarity seems just a notch better.

These photos were taken outside the St. Louis Art Museum. The first is a photograph of “Placebo”–a stainless steel tree sculpture that was commissioned by the Art Museum a few years ago for its contemporary collection. This sculpture feels magical to me. Although it is a stark contrast during the summer sitting among growing, living trees, I always feel there is some sort of secret hiding within when I see it. The second photograph is a view of the Grand Basin taken from in front of the art museum.

These are both without any photo editing. The one of the Grand Basin could probably benefit from a little cropping and some color adjustments.

I was only on the outside that day, but a week or so ago, I went back and walked around inside. As accessible as it is and as much as I like it, it is difficult for me to set aside time to actually go to the art museum and enjoy it. They had a special exhibit, “The Mourners: Tomb Sculptures from the Court of Burgundy and Bill Viola: Visitation” which was rather spectacular.
