Paper Folding Tutorial

I’ve been experimenting with origami recently, and while I enjoy making animals, especially birds, I think I enjoy making boxes more.  Perhaps it’s a latent, cat-like tendency of mine. Today I made a single sheet box with a lid made of flaps that fold into itself which ended up on my Thing-A-Day blog:

I have also been researching other ways to make boxes. I was interested in finding a good tutorial that would show how to make gift boxes that I once learned to create in elementary school. I’m teaching some kids about Japanese culture and I thought this would be a good craft activity. These little boxes are great for holding things like candy or jewelry. I ended up creating my own tutorial because a lot of the diagrams I found seemed unclear or not suitable for making black and white photo copies. The design is quick and dirty, but I think it gets the point across.
